I need help allowing pop-ups on my iPhone as some websites I use require pop-ups to function. I’m not sure how to change the settings. Can anyone guide me on this?
- Open the ‘Settings’ app on your iPhone.
- Scroll down to ‘Safari’ and tap it.
- Find the ‘Block Pop-ups’ toggle and turn it OFF (gray means off).
That’s it. Pop-ups should be good to go now.
Honestly, enabling pop-ups on an iPhone is a pretty straightforward process, but I will say—are we sure we want to do this? Pop-ups exist primarily to haunt us. Still, if you must let them into your life because some websites demand it (looking at you, sketchy sign-up forms), here’s an additional thought beyond what @kakeru mentioned.
After you follow the steps to toggle off ‘Block Pop-ups’ in Safari, I’d recommend doing a little test. Go to one of those wonderful websites that require pop-ups (you know the type), and see if it works. If it doesn’t, try clearing Safari’s cookies and cache under Settings > Safari > Clear History and Website Data. Sometimes Safari gets cranky and needs a reset to fully embrace the chaos that is pop-ups.
Also, just FYI, enabling pop-ups can sometimes let in the less-than-glamorous side effects like unsavory ads. If it gets annoying, try turning it back off after you’re done. You’ll have to decide if those pop-ups are really worth the existential dread of poorly designed car insurance ads screaming at you.
